TDAP
The 2006 Virginia General Assembly passed a law which requires all 6th grade students to have a tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) booster shot prior to entry into middle school, if at least five years has passed since the child’s last DPT .   
No student will be admitted to a Stafford middle school in September without this immunization.   This shot may be listed as T, Td, TDAP. Please review your child’s shot record. Tdap and must be within the last five years.   Call your current school nurse, doctor or local health department if you have questions.  Shots may be obtained from your own doctor or military clinics.   The Stafford Health Department
(659-3101) also offers immunizations free of charge on Friday mornings from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.


Medication Policy
Please review the StaffordCounty policy regarding medications at school. Any medication (including Tylenol, cough drops, and ointments) administered at school must have a written order from the the doctor and a signed permission form from the parents on file at the school (there is a form in the Code of Conduct booklet that should be used for this purpose). Parents need to supply the school with the medication in the original container or labeled prescription bottle.


Clinic Supplies

Stafford County supplies all the clinics with the following items to be used. If you have any questions or concerns about these items, please contact the clinic.

 

Alcohol, Band-Aids, Bacitracin ointment, Saline, Isotonic eyewash solution, First aid cream, Orasol, Paper tape, Chloraseptic throat spray, Ipecac syrup, Vaseline, Bactine, Vinyl gloves, Calamine lotion, Hydrogen Peroxide.



 

 Listed below are the Stafford County Health Services guidelines which parents should use in determining if a sick child should stay at home and when a previously sick child is ready to return to school.  If you have any questions please contact your school nurse.  Additional information is available on the county website:

Student Information

Please keep the school nurse updated on new medical issues or concerns regarding your child, especially new allergies or medical conditions that are diagnosed. If your child becomes ill or injured at school, it is very important that we are able to contact someone, so please keep the school updated with home, work, and cell phone numbers, plus the number of a responsible adult we can call in the event we are unable to reach a parent.

New Students

Students new to Stafford County schools are required to have a physical including a urinalysis and hemoglobin. They also need a current immunization record, including chickenpox (varicella) vaccine for children born after January 1, 1997.


STAFFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS DENTAL PROGRAM
 The dental clinic treats children in Head Start through grade 12 who meet one of the following eligibility requirements:
 Medicaid or FAMIS insurance
-or-
(sliding scale fee through the county health department) 

 Stafford County Public Schools is working with the dental program to provide transportation to and from the Dental Clinic. This service is not available during the summer months.

If your child has Medicaid or Famis insurance they are eligible for dental care.  Please contact your school nurse for the paper work to begin services.
